Matthew Tieu
Matthew is an early career researcher working at the Caring Futures Institute within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Flinders University. He has a background in analytic philosophy, cognitive science, bioethics, and aged care. He completed his PhD in 2019 in which his dissertation focused on theories of selfhood and personal identity and its implications for our understanding of dementia care and depression. His dissertation was recently adapted into a monograph titled "Self and Identity: An exploration of the development, constitution and breakdown of human selfhood", which was published by Routlege Taylor and Francis.
His current research looks at how ideas, concepts and theory from philosophy, ethics and the social sciences inform our understanding and practice of care, with a specific focus on person-centred fundamental care across the life course.
