Mar'yana Fisher
Born and raised in Ukraine, I immigrated to Canada 20 years ago, and now I call beautiful British Columbia my home.
I am a second-year doctoral student at the University of Victoria (UVic) and a palliative care clinician with Fraser Health Authority. I have a unique skill set developed across two undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing. As an undergraduate student, I was a research manager in a criminology lab at Kwantlen University, where I engaged in research projects studying the effectiveness of correctional treatment programs and prisoner housing issues. Within my role, I wrote proposals for governmental funding related to the rehabilitation of prisoners and crime desistance. This experience became a catalyst for my interest in applied research that aims to enhance equitable access and care for carceral populations.
